Software Localization Components
Putting the software localization pieces together
Software localization projects are complex efforts involving cross-functional teams, specialized technology and numerous interrelated parts tied to our clients’ development and release schedules. As our teams work through the stages of a project, we often tackle components in parallel to maximize efficiency and meet deadlines.
Key components of software localization projects include:
- User Interface (UI): Our teams prepare and deliver the comprehensive, high-quality processes leading software companies rely on, including: developing a multilingual glossary, parsing and translating text in the application resource files, leveraging existing translations into an updated source version, resizing controls, assigning hotkeys, executing builds, testing builds on localized operating systems and more.
- Help Systems: Our teams localize help files in parallel to the user interface to speed turn-around times. UI and Help Tms are shared in order to keep consistency across the two components. We work with all major help tools and formats within the same environments used by our clients. As our linguistic teams translate and edit text, our technical teams take localized screenshots, edit graphics and format translated files, and our QA staff test the final help files to ensure linguistic and technical quality.
- Printed Documentation: Our expert document translation teams localize printed materials that accompany software, including packaging, installation instructions and administration and user manuals. In addition to mastering the process of extracting, translating and reintegrating text, we also localize screen captures and other artwork for printed materials, perform quality reviews and oversee output generation. We are skilled in modern publishing tools such as FrameMaker and InDesign as well as XML and single-source authoring environments.
We understand the intricacies of localizing software components — and we ensure they work together to create a cohesive product ready for market. Contact us today to discuss your next project or request a quote.
